Risk sharing 'a temporary setback' (or Sir Humphrey lives on)Please click here to download the article (PDF, 256KB)
This is an article we wrote for the March 2010 edition of PMI News
Sir Desmond: "Surely a decsion's a decision"
Sir Humphrey: "Only if it's the decision you want. If not it's just a temporary setback."
Last month, PMI News published an article written by Hamish Wilson and John Branford in which they (with echoes of Sir Humphrey) look at the DWP's decision that "Government should take no further action on CDC schemes".
The article considers the DWP's assessment of risk sharing, specifically Collective DC schemes", and:
- outlines the nature and advantages of CDC
- discusses the cost implications
- questions the obsession with avoiding risk at the cost of obtaining returns (in society and implicit in DWP's thinking)
- concludes with a rallying cry for the industry to keep the issue on the agenda by focusing on society's principles.
